Hope Rekindled in the Hills: Amina’s Journey from Loss to Leadership

When Amina, a 17-year-old girl from northern Kenya, lost both her parents to illness, her future seemed all but lost. With no one to care for her and no means to continue her schooling, Amina was forced to drop out and help her younger siblings survive by selling firewood in a nearby village.

Her life began to change when a local Catholic mission, supported by international donors and partners, stepped in. Through the outreach of the Sisters of Mercy, Amina was not only given daily meals and basic necessities but was also re-enrolled in school. More than just physical support, she received emotional healing through counseling and prayer sessions offered by the parish community.

Today, Amina is preparing to sit for her final exams and dreams of becoming a nurse to help children in her region. “I had no voice, no path, and no hope,” she says. “Now I wake up with purpose.”

Her story is just one of many that demonstrate how faith-driven compassion and community support can turn despair into opportunity.
